UK producers say proposal for biofuel cap will lead to plant closure

22.02.2017

FINANCIAL TIMES - Ministers plan to limit or ban crop-based renewable fuel to encourage use of waste Thousands of jobs will be at risk and hundreds of millions of pounds in investment written off if the UK government restricts the amount of crop-based biofuel allowed in petrol. At the moment, 4.75 per cent of fuel at petrol pumps must be renewable. The government is proposing to raise this to 9.75 per cent by 2020 but cap the amount of crop-based renewable fuel at 2 per cent, to encourage the use of waste, rather than food crops, as feedstock. Another option being considered is to ban their products completely.
