Why the EU shouldn’t backtrack on conventional biofuels

POLITICO - Europe needs more ambition if it wants to decarbonize transport. By Emmanuel Desplechin, secretary general, ePURE Europe needs a realistic mix of renewable energy solutions — including low-emission fuels such as sustainably produced and renewable European ethanol — if it wants to achieve its goal of decarbonizing EU transport. That may seem like an obvious statement. After all, shouldn’t the EU use every tool it has available to reduce greenhouse gas emissions as it tries to meet its climate and energy goals? The answer from almost everyone who took part in a recent POLITICO debate Decarbonizing Europe’s transport sector: On the road to low emission mobility was a resounding “Yes.”
