ePURE elects new officers
European renewable ethanol association members choose Stephan Meeder of CropEnergies as President and Antonio Vallespir of Vertex Bioenergy as Vice-President
BRUSSELS, 14 June 2023 – ePURE, the European renewable ethanol association, today elected Stephan Meeder as its new President for a two-year term. Meeder, the CEO of German ethanol producer CropEnergies, had previously served as ePURE’s Vice-President.
In his new role, Meeder replaces Valérie Corre, Director of Regulatory Affairs Alcohol/Ethanol Europe for Tereos, who had served as ePURE’s President since 2021.
“The strategic importance of Europe’s renewable ethanol industry has never been more crucial,” said Meeder. “European biorefineries produce more than just climate-friendly renewable fuel to reduce emissions from road transport; they also produce food, high-quality animal feed, biogenic CO2 for beverage and industrial applications and industrial and high-quality neutral ethanol – all from European crops, wastes and residues.
Added Meeder, “As ePURE President, I will work with policymakers and stakeholders to help ensure that the European renewable ethanol sector can continue to play a role in realizing EU ambitions for emissions-reduction, energy independence, food security and social inclusiveness.”
ePURE members also elected Antonio Vallespir, CEO of Vertex Bioenergy, as the association’s new Vice-President.
ePURE represents the interests of European renewable ethanol producers to the EU institutions, industry stakeholders, the media, academia and the general public. Based in Brussels, ePURE speaks for 40 member companies and associations, with around 50 plants across the EU and UK, accounting for about 85% of EU renewable ethanol production. The organisation, established in 2010, promotes the beneficial uses of ethanol throughout Europe.
