ePURE looks towards plenary session for a workable compromise after ENVI Committee vote

11.07.2013

The Environment Committee (ENVI) of the European Parliament adopted MEP Corinne Lepage’s report on the revision of the RED and FQD Directive with 43 votes in favour and 26 against. In particular the proposal to set a 5,5% cap on the use of first generation biofuels is of concern for existing and future investments as well as for job opportunities in the European renewable ethanol sector, which has already invested nearly 8 billion euros in the past 8 years, creating 70,000 direct and indirect jobs, and providing government revenue of 300 million euros in France alone.
